Standing with Evelyn After Her Stroke On July 25, 2025, my sister Evelyn suffered a stroke that has changed her life dramatically. If you know Evelyn, you know her heart. She has worked tirelessly for years serving families raising deaf and hard-of-hearing children. She is a full-time employee at the Maryland School for the Blind, where she works with children who have dual sensory disorders, including deafblindness and multiple disabilities. Beyond her job, she founded Deshawn’s Angels Resources, a program that supports families of deaf and hard-of-hearing children, helping them navigate life in a hearing world. Evelyn has always been an advocate — passionate about making sure every child and family she touches feels supported, seen, and loved. Now, Evelyn finds herself on the other side of that fight. The stroke has left her with limited mobility on her right side and unable to do the things she loves most: working, serving families, and giving her all to the children she advocates for every day. As she focuses on recovery, Evelyn is unable to work and will need time, care, and resources to regain her independence. Our immediate goal is to help her maintain her current living arrangements to provide stability while she heals. This includes covering rent, utilities, and essential daily needs, as well as items that support stroke survivors with limited mobility. We are a family of faith and trust in what God has in store for Evelyn. We believe in her strength and her words: “It’s going to take a couple of months, but I’m going to get through this and back to myself.” Your contribution, whether financial, sharing this page, or simply keeping her in prayer, will help Evelyn focus on healing while knowing she is surrounded by love and support.
